I don't start to worry until the All-Star break. Anything before then is just practice in my opinion.
Eh, I wouldn't say All-Star break. That's kind of late to me. If you're 10 back at the break, you're probably approaching the trade deadline as a seller.
I like to get out of April at over .500. That's a reasonable goal. You might have a bit of a slow start, but you want to start getting some wins strung together before the end of the first full month. By Memorial Day, I like to be hovering around first place. At that point, all the hitters should be caught up to the pitching and the rotation should be settled in.
I will say, I'm unsettled already at the RISP situation. It's been the same garbage for years with this team. They get runners on, and they can't move them. The problem is, this year they don't have a Cano, Granderson, or ARod to bail them out with a long ball. Tex may not be that guy anymore, and Soriano looks lost at the plate right now. Beltran can't be expected to carry the load and Ellsbury wasn't a particularly great signing in the first place. (I'm not against Ellsbury, but given the choice between paying him or Cano, the Yankees made the wrong decision.)
It's still early though, so we'll see if things play out better. This is a really weak bottom of the lineup though, so the top has to start making something happen. Getting no-hit through 3 or 4 innings isn't going to cut it, no matter how good the pitching is.
