Some rumor flying around he opted out because he was told he would get the Jets job.

Note this is a rumor I hear from syracuse people who supposedly have ties to Marrone personally.

It's in the Jets tweets thread  too

Steiny and Bassett said (hours ago) he would opt out and the Jets would be all over him

You all want to excrement your pants?  What if he brings the Bills OC with him?

I'll let those of you who don't know who that is google him/his proud papa.

Now that Marrone has opted out, Schefter believes we are the favorite to land him.

I have mixed feelings about this.

The guy got the Bills to their first winning season in forever, and presided over a damn good defense.

But I don't see anything that makes him special as a coach, he also isn't sticking around very long anywhere. Also he did draft Manuel, was that forced by the owner? Or simply was because they felt he could be a player?

I think there is a difference between a rumor we would be interested if he opts out, and somebody knowing Marrone being he told he'd be a favorite for the Jets job if he came available.

My first thought about him opting out was "he must really hate EJ Manuel". But it's hard to imagine him liking Geno Smith more. That could actually be a positive, getting a HC who won't try to roll with Geno.

If he comes here he'd essentially be getting handed a Rex defense twice in a row.
