Steve Kerr Becomes Coach Of The... Warriors?
« on: May 14, 2014, 08:38:16 PM »
Quote
Steve Kerr has accepted the Warriors' head coaching job, according to David Aldridge of NBA.com.
Wow. It's expected to be a five-year, $25 million deal, according to Yahoo! Sports. The Knicks and Kerr were apparently working out the contract details and Golden State has just swooped in at the last minute. The allure of staying on the west coast to remain closer to his family may have helped while the Warriors are also a better team on the court. On the flip side, the Knicks can't be excited about this with Kerr turning down Phil Jackson's offer. One would think Kerr's history of shooting triples should translate to the Warriors remaining as one of the most three-happy team in the NBA.

This certainly shocked everybody...

Definitely not a good start to the Phil Jackson era

Thought it "might" put pressure on Jackson to reconsider coaching

No, it didn't.

I thought the Knicks were frontrunners, but Kerr is a west coast dude and Golden State has a much better roster.

His daughter is also a volleyball player at Cal, so he'll get to be there for that too.

Derek Fisher time.

Couldn't find any derriere pics, but she's the one on the right.

According to Frank Isola, Kerr was unwanted by much of the Knicks' organization. He wanted to make sweeping changes to the staff/team, and that turned people off. Dolan almost certainly ruined this deal, which means even with Jackson, this is still the same Knicks.
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well

Yeah, you better keep that successful structure in place.

That's the key thing. Dolan and his cronies have their network of guys who are untouchable, no matter how poorly run the organization is as a result. Until Dolan sells the team, the results are not going to improve.

One of my greatest fears, and in sports-related terms only the Jets never winning in my lifetime is worse, is James Dolan acquiring a controlling interest in the Yankees.
