Sounds awesome, dude. I've always wanted to do a 10k. Need to set my sights higher than just a bitch derriere 5k.
nothing wrong with a 5k, but I've always wanted to see how I'd fare in a 10k. If it goes the way I like it, and I feel good afterward, maybe I'll do another. Baby steps.

5'9" is absolutely average. It won't be in 20 years, but it is right now.

LOL @ dcm acting like Drew Brees is an average athlete because he's 6'0.
He shook my hand breed tub and walked away

"da average man is drew brees!"

I'm willing to bet that you are as terrible at sports as you are at life.

It was a reference to his height (as the Jets were joking about him being 5'10 all week)

Your knowledge of hobbits is absolutely pathetic, and you should be ashamed of yourself.

I'm doing my first ever 10k this Sunday. Realistically looking at finishing anywhere in the 50-55 minute range and I'd be a happy guy. I'm just coming off another soccer season, so I figure what better time to try it then now?

That would be a very respectable time. Anything sub 60 on your first time at that distance is to be proud of, TBH.

I booked my next couple of races at the weekend, I'm doing Hamilton's Around The Bay in March (30K in Canadian winter weather with 10K of hills to finish) and then the marathon at Ottawa Race Weekend in May. I've kind of half-assed my training for most of the summer so it has been nice to get back into it seriously in the last three or four weeks.

^werent you hurt, though?

I look at it this way in respects to my time...I regularly jog high 3s, low 4s mile-wise with splits anywhere in the 7:30-7:45 range and I've been playing 90 minutes at defensive mid every Sunday for the past two months.

I figure if I can just keep my splits in the 9 minute range, I should be good. Although, admittedly, this is farther than I usually run. I did a 5-mile race around the Central Park loop this past March and I hit 40 minutes pretty much on the dot. Central Park is a lot hillier than you'd think, too.

The U.S is ridiculously diverse. I'm 5'10 and see plenty of people shorter than me.
