Maybe they're going to ask his opinion so they know what not to do.

I know I sound a little nutty but seriously here why pick a failure at gm to advise you, he already has one on staff if he really wants.

For freak sake use Wolf and Casserly as sounding boards, one was highly successful and the other moderately successful. Surely they're better, freak my beloved Pekingese is a better option. Lol

Let's be honest.  You consider freaking your Pekingese to be a better option than a lot of things.

Can't argue that.

Per Dick Cimini

Former Jaguars GM Gene Smith could be hired as the asst. GM, Mike Maccagnan's right-hand man. #nyj

Costello was saying it probably won't be as a replacement for Bradway or Bauer in their scouting roles. Maybe he'll be the one booking flights and hotels while Duff watches 400 hours of tape trying to find our new backup tight end.

I would expect Gene Smith's role to be similar to that of Rod Graves with John Idzik. Someone who has been a GM who can advise. #nyj

Gene operates under a worst player available draft system, I don't know if that's a great idea

This was expected, I think.  Mark Dominik was the first name mentioned.  Maccagnan wanted to hire a former GM to work with him.

I think contracts/signings are something Maccagnan might need help with.

Maybe he's in charge of smokescreens. Someone needs to leak stuff to Manish.

This might sound weird, but I'd be more comfortable with this if they had at least worked together at some point. Then it's just a little nepotism. I don't get why he'd just bring him on board out of the blue though.

This is also how I feel about Chan Gailey.

I read somewhere that they are close friends.

Maybe they met on the road while they were both scouts.

That has to be it.  They also were part of teams in the same division for a long time, but you wouldn't think they'd interact much that way.
