The Saints have interest in re-signing CB Kyle Wilson.
Wilson played 509 snaps last year, grading out positively in coverage at PFF. He could be brought back to compete for one of the final corner spots with P.J. Williams and Damian Swann. Wilson should settle for the veteran minimum.
Rotocrap
-
He had 7 passes defended, 1 interception, and 739 finger wags, 60% of which came with a flag on the play
-
I'm told the #Saints and former first-round CB Kyle Wilson have agreed to terms on a one-year deal to keep him in New Orleans.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Dez Bryant left Friday's practice with what the Saints fear is a torn Achilles.
He's getting an MRI as we speak. This would be an absolutely devastating turn of events for Dez, who ended his nearly seven-month unemployment Wednesday by signing a one-year deal with New Orleans. Bryant wasn't expected to play this week anyway but now he could be lost for the season. With Bryant now likely to join Ted Ginn (knee) and Cameron Meredith (knee) on injured reserve, more will be asked of rookie deep threat Tre'Quan Smith down the stretch while Michael Thomas will continue to be a target hog for the 7-1 Saints.
Jesus, that was brief.
-
I’ve always disliked Dez... a lot... but I legit wanted to see him play this year and feel terrible for him

Updating a previous New Orleans Times-Picayune report, Michael Thomas is seeking $22 million per year.
The Saints are reportedly at $18 million annually. A contract should be coming eventually, but "nothing is imminent" with about four million separating the two sides. There are a few receivers waiting on new deals, so there may be a waiting game to see where the market settles for elite receivers. Thomas has the most receptions (321) since 2016, his first year in the league.
Is this the future of the position? 22million a year for a wide out? Holy freak how the times change
Blows Antonio brown and ODB out of the water if he's even close to that number
-

I can't keep track any more, but what are AB and ODB at now? I thought they were 14-16 per ish

^^i see that happen all the time so it's not something singular to one person, but why do people/the general public call OBJ 'ODB' all the time and not realize that they're calling him ODB, and not OBJ?
ODB was/is a legend. OBJ is a twerk queen

LOL, I almost called this out earlier. I'm an old fart and I've never knowingly heard a Wu Tang Clan track but even I know the difference between ODB and OBJ.

ODB just sounds cooler than OBJ. We know who the real ODB is of course.

Saints bringing in AB for a workout per Schefty.
What's the worst that happens if they get him to commit to a deal for the rest of the year on the vets minimum? League says he can't play? Big deal. They don't have to pay him apparently the fine would come out of a league-wide playoff pool.
Meanwhile the upside is having AB and Michael Thomas on the field at the same time. Yikes.

Does he have a reputation of being a dick? I can see a scenario in which they know this is Brees' last season, are preparing for a full rebuild and don't want someone around with a track record of being difficult to work with. That said, any trade would make far more sense after the season is over - they'll get a better return, the cap damage wouldn't be as bad, and presumably they would want to give Brees every chance possible of going out with a ring.
-
Trade all the things for him.

The Saints are almost $100 million over the cap for 2021. They are going to have to cut a lot of guys, restructure Brees' contract even if he retires, and restructure a bunch of players just to get even. I can't imagine Sean Payton will be happy, but they may have to rebuild.

All eyes should be on Alvin Kamara
Though I don't think the Jets want to pay out big bucks for another FA back
Heck if Michael Thomas was on the trade block, I'm not sure I'd be interested there either, unless we somehow don't draft a wideout early

freaking rotoworld never up to date
-
The Athletic's Jeff Duncan reports Alvin Kamara "refused to wear the contract tracing device issued by the NFL and mandated for all players and coaches."
Per Duncan, it was "an internal issue all season." It meant the league had no way to trace Kamara's close contacts when he tested positive for COVID-19 in Week 17. Already fined nearly $1 million for various COVID violations this season, the Saints are under yet another investigation. This one could come with heavy discipline, including the loss of a legit draft pick.
Saints are about to turn back into a dumpster fire franchise.

If i was them I'd be thinking full rebuild and trading as many older vets as possible.
Teams gotta start fresh and get young. 5 of their top 6 cap hits are in their 30s.
Trade all them fuckers to contenders, have Brees retire.
-
Interestingly I just what happens if you're actually over the cap. Apparently you get fined up to 5 million, draft picks docked, contracts get canceled.
So basically the Saints either need to kick the can down the road, which imo is absolutely freaking iditoic.
Or tear it down
-

They can help a little more by designating some of their cuts as post June 1, but they are still gonna have to trade or cut some big names they don't want to. If they tear it down, might as well trade some of their higher draft picks for assets in future years to cut down the rookie costs. Won't make much difference, but every little bit helps. From reading this: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-take-heres-how-saints-can-dig-out-of-2021-salary-cap-mess-potential-cap-casualties-and-restructures/ :
-They can get $23 million or so back by restructuring Brees to league minimum salary next year and making him a post June 1 retirement.
-$13 million by cutting Kwon Alexander.
-Janoris Jenkins, another $7 million.
-Malcolm Brown, $5 million.
-Latavious Murray $2.5 million.
-Could restructure Cameron Jordan to get $10 million
These moves would get them within a pube or 2 of the salary cap, but not accounting for rookies.
They could extend Ryan Ramscycksksk or Lattimore to do that. Have to extend one of them anyway, can't use tag on both.
They will also be right back at this excrement again next year, but they don't care.
