Why does that bother you

People not using cruise? Because it means they don't drive at a constant speed, which in turn means that you end up in stupid and unnecessary overtaking loops or that you'll pull out to overtake and then they'll speed up.

Cruise makes cars and roads more efficient. People don't use it because they're either too stupid or too scared, and neither is an acceptable trait on the roads.

I'm capable of maintaining a constant speed without cruise control, but the people who can't should use it more often. Like you said, it results in a lot of unnecessary overtaking loops.

I used to use cruise control as much as possible when I had my own car, but between that and the navigator I felt I was slipping into autopilot, which made me uncomfortable. Now I just use cruise control when I've got wide open highway.

Good point. The cruise control on my family's old Subaru no longer works.

Most cars made in the last five years have cruise control. It's pretty much a default feature these days.

It's not very difficult to keep a constant speed without cruise. That said, there are too many horrible drivers down here to accurately use cruise.

If people don't have cruise, they have a responsibility to maintain speed anyway. Braking has a domino effect, and it even amplifies and creates further slowdowns.

When I said no reason, I literally meant no apparent reason, as in nobody's in front of them and they're not going fast enough to warrant slowing down.

Pisses my wife off too.  People reflexively brake when entering a tunnel, even though the road doesn't narrow and there are signs that say "maintain speed".  One person brakes, and then everyone else has to----------->tunnel traffic.

I think we can all agree there are too many idiots on the road.

That said, I don't use cruise most of the time. But whenever I'm driving for at least an hour, I use it all the time. It increases fuel efficiency, plus I like the semi-autopilot. Cruise has been a boon lately for me since my son went up to Boston. That's a long-derriere ride.
