Never went.  Am I missing much?  Hofstra on certain days was a bit of a yawn-fest.

No, not really. If you wanted to go I'd recommend planning some other Central NY activities into the day.

If you drive west there are also dozens of wineries in the Finger Lakes region, and there's probably some stuff to do/see in Ithaca.

I'm certainly intrigued by that Middle Ages Brewery. I've also wanted to visit the Finger Lakes wineries for a while.

There's no real brewery tour or anything (those get boring anyway), but you get a decent amount of free samples in the tasting room.
