And honestly, if I was the NFL I'd have tried to pay him off before the news about Ross offering to freaking pay him to tank went public. Nothing like injecting that tidbit out there considering the fact that the NFL has now completely welcomed and linked themselves with gaming apps.

I wasn't surprised when he didn't get the Giants job, I don't think anyone else was either, it was pretty much predestined to be Daboll's job if he wanted it as soon as they hired their GM from buffalo. The Giants can easily insulate themselves from the allegation that Flores was a token rooney rule candidate when you consider they interviewed Graham and Frazier.

Or maybe Flores doesn't mind being a martyr. Different than Kaepernick's stand, but it could end up being more impactful if others join him.

Jim Caldwell probably can't wait to jump on this.

I get the concept of the Rooney Rule, but it's also stupid to get upset when a team finds a guy they really like and then hire him. Especially if the sole reason they're interviewing someone else is because they're literally mandated to.

 it's also stupid of teams to not just comply with the rule, but if the Giants felt like they risked losing the guy they wanted, then it's not unreasonable to tell him hey listen you're our dude but we still have to interview Flores just because.

The peculiar thing about all this is Flores by all accounts seems like one of the better coaching candidates. I don't blame teams for wanting an offensive minded coach (ie Daboll) over him, but if we were looking for a HC right now and chose Flores over Saleh I don't think any of us would be upset

Terrible head coach suddenly remembers reason why he was terrible.

Also, Hue Jackson just admitted to throwing games. Unless he's saying that he refused the money, did his best and lost anyway, in which case why would Haslam have bothered offering extra money for something he was going to do anyway?
