Sure seems like Gase isn't a fan of McGuire/Cannon.

I think this move is insurance for if we don't grab a back in the draft that we really want.

I'd expect we find this move involves little to no guaranteed money on the 1 year deal
Need a new one for a new board...

An RB that can catch >

McGuire and Cannon were serviceable in that department but Montgomery runs better routes and has better hands

Prob not a big commitment which we can get out of if we land a good RB prospect in the draft or UDFA. Makes RB less of a need when taking into consideration our lack of draft picks

Somewhat of an odd signing considering he is almost primarily a pass catching hack and we have McGuire.

But Gase clearly has a type at running back. Drake, Ballage and Montgomery are all tall, fast, twitchy backs who can catch the ball.

I like Montgomery as a player, and we can use his versatility in our favor.

Still won't be surprised if they bring in someone else as competition at RB.

"Return specialist" who averages 22.7 yards per kick return.

Andre Roberts averages only two more yards per return, offers no value on offense, and is 5 years older than Montgomery.

Montgomery averages over 8 yards per catch and almost 5 yards per carry.

And? That would have been good for 11th in the NFL in 2018 and 9th in 2017.  Andre Roberts averaged 22.6 in 2016 and 2017.

We should be able to expect an uptick in YPKR if Boyer is as good as we all think he is.

My only gripe is that he doesn’t have any experience returning punts.

I don't see the point of arguing age on a guy we just let go vs. a guy we only signed for a year.

Montgomery was probably targeted more for his offensive ability than ST.

I like the signing.

How do you back up a versatile running back?  By signing another one. Well done.

Yep, solid, sensible signing.

Whether he's an upgrade/downgrade on ST to Roberts is irrelevant, imo, since Im assuming Ty will primarily be used on offense as a backup/2nd RB (competing with Elijah) and occasionally WR. He's had success at both positions. Any return game usage is gravy, and the option clearly adds to his versatility and potential value.

Roberts was not an NFL-caliber WR, and was basically useless on offense.

TyMont was featured in tonight's One Jets Drive

Really looking forward to Gase using him as a pocket knife in our offense.

What are we thinking the final rb depth chart ends up? Bell Montgomery and Bilal? That's a lot of fricken versatility

It has to be those three unless McGuire finds a way to outlast Powell.

Bell and Montgomery are locks.
