I don't think Russ is broken, he needs to be in a different offense.  Whatever that was this year was poison.  You don't have a hall of fame career and excrement the bed that badly just from player regression.

Trading a ton of picks for a washed up QB then trading your other picks for a coach seems like poor strategy.

I wonder if the Broncos came back to him because their other choices rebuffed them.  Mainly their other choices were preferred because they didn't require draft pick compensation.
