Our QB is on a 1-year deal. He doesn't mean excrement to this year's roster, barring injury, but I'm guessing considering Geno is the alternative, that Petty as a backup is definitely under consideration at this point. If we had a set backup, I wouldn't care as much.

You do realize that Petty would not be significantly better than Geno as  a backup this year right?

Long term absolutely he has far more upside at this point I think. But Petty or Geno would both do pretty shitty if thrown into the starting lineup this year
