I let BotW fall by the wayside a bit - I'm having some frustration with the final trials in the trial of the sword. I don't want to proceed with the storyline until I finish that, and finishing it is a pain in the derriere.

I never did trials of the sword.

Started a 2nd play through a while back and collected way more Korok seeds/shrines/side quests etc. What’s the actual payout/benefits of the trials?

if you have the DLC, you can power up the master sword from a 30 to a 40/50/60 depending on how many of the trials you complete. 60 also includes permanent glowing status which greatly increases the sword's durability.

The final trials have been a grind and not very fun so I keep putting it off, but I also don't want to proceed with the story until I finish them.

Turns out Kena is also the best Disney/Pixar movie I"ve ever seen.
