I enjoyed it as well. I never saw cloverfield though.

I think that's the only way that the entire point of the movie couldn't have been ruined before the opening credits.

Oh no wait, it's called freaking Cloverfield. It's alien gribblies like we knew it was from the outset. Brilliant performances ruined by an utter lack of tension because it was called Cloverfield and we knew before it started that it was alien gribblies because we saw the first freaking Cloverfield.

It was originally written as a script called The Cellar. I don't know how they'd planned on finishing it, but even just keeping the title would have made it better. But no, they had to put Cloverfield in the title to get people into the cinemas despite the fact that it ruined the film.

But the whole reason the movie works is because the audience knows that there is a good reason for John Goodman's behavior.  The suspense isn't about aliens, it's about being trapped in a bunker with someone who may or may not be a psychopath.

when shia labeouf was still starring in them, i would literally watch the movies just to see the ridiculous 'OPTIMUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!' shout he does in every single one. i don't know why but i would die every time
