Wilkerson will probably get something around 80-85 mil now if he keeps playing at an elite level in 2014

Watt has been the best defensive player in the league going on 3 years now. Good for him and even better than Mo.

hmmm...

Everything I see on it says $51 Million.

Damn, if only we could have signed Wilk to a 5 year 60 million extension this off season.  Who would have thunk it?

What makes you think he would have taken that?

I am not saying he would or should have.  It goes back to a different debate.  The crux of the argument was that we had him under contract for 2 additional years at minimal salary and waiting, or locking him up for the next seven years.  If I remember correctly, the highest 3-4 DE contract was 5 years 60 million or there abouts, and that is where the number came from.

I don't think he would have been all that interested in extending before someone like watt got a new deal. He may be a team first kind of guy, but when a guy like watt will need a deal sooner than you, you let that happen.

Maybe, however, playing football at very minimal salaries is a very risky gamble, let alone 2 seasons.  It would be pretty stupid to turn down the highest contract at the time.  That being said, again, I am not saying he should or would have, if it was offered up.

I hope Idzik leverages the freak out of Wilkerson.

Thats an absurd amount of cash

I mean we have Wilk under contract for 2 years, and then we could tag him (and for this kinda money, tagging him would be a bargain)

Hell it could make sense to just have him play out his current deal, then tag him, and give him a deal just as good as Watt's

(getting us Wilk for around 8 years 110~ million~)

And having Wilk through his age 32 season

It was well known that Watt would get an enormous contract. Wilk will get paid but I think it will be more incentive based with less guaranteed money. I'll guess 6 years 75 million with 25 guaranteed.

Would a smaller deal with more guaranteed money make more sense for the team in terms of cap space?
"Wrong!"

Yes but you run the risk of getting screwed if Wilk has injuries or his play starts to decline.
