Anyone A. following the weird drama in the chess community and B. want to explain it to us normal people?
I can't say I'm "following" it, but I've read a couple of things about it.
My understanding is that Magnus Carlsen firmly believes some young (18? 19?) kid is cheating. From what I've gathered, people think he's using simulation software to play out moves before taking his turn, but no one can prove it. The kid has been caught cheating in the past, but swears he's clean now. A couple of weeks ago, the two of them sat down to play online, and like 2 moves into the game, Carlsen just quit and went on to write an open letter stating his belief the kid was cheating again. Weirdly though, when pressed, he never says what he thinks the guy is actually doing.
On the surface, it seems stupid, but I guess it's the same as anything else that is competitive and pays money. Someone will try to cheat, and anyone who doesn't will be furious.
