Feels like we all had this penciled in as a loss before the season but the Lions seems vulnerable. Can the Jets avoid shooting themselves in the foot?

No.

Play a good game. Now that we're back down to earth, I'm back on the "want to see progress this year" train.

We could win, but I wouldn't put money on it. Just go out there and be competitive. Let the young guys get reps and continue to learn. Keep Garrett and Breece healthy.

And someone teach AG how to use timeouts, if nothing else. Though it would also be nice for whoever is reviewing the film to tell him not to waste freaking challenges.

Stopping Amon-Ra is one problem, but the bigger problem might be Sam LaPorta since i can't remember the last time this team was able to defend against a TE.

Those of you that are still in the "Let's Give This Aaron Glenn Fella a Chance" - for reasons I can't really fathom - this is an important match-up.  Our defense should have a coaching advantage as they go up against the personnel with whom our playcaller is most familiar.

He's our head coach now, what other choice do we have? The team looks significantly better than it did last year. That's a positive. Some of the in-game stuff, and last year are the biggest negatives. And even if you view the improvement this year more to Mougey than to Glenn, the only reason Mougey is here is because of Glenn. If the goal was to follow the Lions model, they won the same number of games in year 1 under Campbell as the Jets did in year 1 under Glenn.

I'm not even trying to be some Glenn apologist. I thought he should have been fired after they decided to fire both their coordinators. But he wasn't, and it's only his 2nd season as a head coach. There's no point in firing him midseason, so let's see how he does and evaluate his job status later. If the team significantly improves, he will deserve credit. And if this team goes 5-12, he will probably get fired.

But yes, you would like to think that Glenn could do a good job defensively in this matchup considering the familiarity. His defense has been great through two games, but this is a much tougher test than the first two games.

Ok sure that checks out if you go based on vibes and on paper we should get blown out. If this game is even close its bc Aaron Glenn is an elite coach

I'd care more if it affected the team's play.  I will say it's annoying being at a game and hearing old dudes just constantly rag on the Jets' suckage.  I get the occasional "we suck" comment, but we can probably let go of saying it every play.

It's the team's job to give me a reason to think we could be decent.  It isn't necessary to be overly positive or overly negative.

Before the season, I felt like we could be approaching a slightly below average team, which is a step up from to diarrhea of last year.  Week 1 made me feel a little better about that.  Week 2 sent me right back to before week 1.

Play better and you'll get a more positive fan base over time.

I'll point out that the descent to fan misery was instantaneous after the 1998-2010 era. Jets made 3 AFC championships during that time and made the playoffs about half the time, and by the time 2011 was over, the label of perennial loser had already been slapped back on the team.

We get enough excrement externally, being self-deprecating on top of it is unnecessary.

I think it's the way we collapsed (Geno and Sanchez drama), and the team's history. Everyone my age and older remembers how bad this team was under Walton, Coslett, and Kotite. Carroll getting fired after one decent year and going on to have a pretty good career didn't help. The Belichick debacle. Al Groh one-and-done.

When the wheels fall off, it truly feels like "Of course they did" to someone like me. Frankly, I'm so much less pissed off these days when it happens because of the guys on this board. But it's still hard not to feel "SOJ" when they do things like hire Adam Gase, Aaron Rodgers goes down on the first drive of his Jets career, we hire DC after DC as though it's not the same story on repeat.

Not saying it's right. Just saying it's a hard habit to kick. And telling ourselves it's just the way it'll always be leaves us prepared for the worst, while desperately hoping for the best.
