Exactly why we should've seen it coming.

We had the 16th pick, and when we handed in the card, it said Sadiq.

Think of him as a pass catcher, not necessarily a TE or WR.  If he can draw coverage with his athleticism, who cares whether he's a WR or not.

Not sure what we do with Mason Taylor besides bench.

I assume he is going to mostly be a big slot for us. Not sure he is a great route runner not an in line blocker but he is a freak of nature. If he learns the position he can be an absolute monster.

Given the narrative around Bailey is we had to take the safe pro ready guy, Sadiq is certainly a swing for the fences kind of Boom or Bust pick
Need a new one for a new board...

I hate taking guys that run up the board because of their combine numbers, but hey, I'll pull for the guy.

One of the most predictive things for tight end success in the NFL is athleticism. Probably more than any position. Sadiq is instantly one of the most athletic players in the NFL at any position.

I also think he's a very good compliment to Mason Taylor's skillset.

That said...I do not like this pick. If you're taking a tight end in round 1, you need to check every box. He's a good blocker for his size, but he's probably not big enough to be a good in-line blocker. As a pass catcher, he was not very productive and was nearly outproduced by his own teammate. He's one of the least productive 1st-round tight ends in a while.

If he hits, he will be a super fun player, but I'm skeptical. And with the regime likely out after this season, I don't really like playing a tweener player who a future regime might not like as much.

Hopefully they keep his derriere on the field all day long and move him around. Out wide, slot, FB.

They absolutely need to make him very versatile to get some use out of him.

But I do not expect it is going to be an easy transition to stardom for Sadiq. It also will not be easy as jets fans will compare him to Warren and Bowers that went in the years before him.

If you're spending the No. 16 pick in the draft on him, that better be the plan.

Mason Taylor is the in-line tight end. Sadiq should be everywhere.

I just hope he can transition to okaydome.

I guess Ruckert is just a fanboi at this point.
