That goes back to what reuben posted yesterday. There's no guarantee, other than if we lose every single game, that we get the QB we want. And let's be real, we could lose every game, and another team with an easier SOS would lose every game too and we'd be screwed.

If the opportunity to draft a QB (my preference is Simpson) is there, outside the #2 pick, we really have to consider taking him.
Quote from: Badger on October 29, 2014, 07:20:05 PMTeams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well

Counterpoint: trade Simpson to another team for another 2027 first

Forgot about the implications with the Packers/Cowboys pick. That is huge

Just need 1 of 4 teams (Jets, Colts, Cowboys, Packers) to be mega derriere

How sweet would it be to add one more first round pick to that list? Would be glorious if the Titans or Giants wanted to move up to 2? Or if someone like the Cardinals wanted to come up from 34 to 16 if they were coming after Ty Simpson? Maybe the Broncos wanna trade up for Sadiq?

Hell why not both? Trade to 5 so the Giants can have Love, and we can take Styles and then let the Cardinals come up for Simpson. Fantasy land for sure, but if you pulled that off, there is a pretty real shot we would finish with 3 top 10 picks and quite possibly 2 top 5 picks if we are as bad as we think we will be

I agree.  In this draft, I'd rather have more picks than higher picks.  No one is generational this year.  I'd rather go from 2 down to 8 or 9 and get an extra pick in the first or 2nd.  This team needs bodies. We need to be volume shoppers. The more shots you have at the target the better chance you have to hit it.  I'd rather spread my risk over 2 picks than throw it all down on #2 overall.

For example, if Cleveland wanted to move up from 6 to 2, we could get their extra 1st rounder (#24) and maybe another 3rd or 4th rounder.  We'd have 3 first rounders THIS year and only go back to 6.  Plenty of talent at 6 that would be similar to what's at 2.

I am almost always in favor of trading down because almost every trade down is good process analytically.

That said, this team needs impact players. They signed a lot of depth in free agency, and they traded their impact players last season. They need a guy like Arvell Reese or Sonny Styles or David Bailey to be the lynchpin to this defense.

The Jets are going to have 4 top-50 picks in this year's draft, and 4 top-50 picks in next year's draft including 3 in the 1st round. Time to start using those picks to get stud players.

If they can trade back and still get Reese, Styles or Bailey, great. But I want one of those 3 players. Tate and Downs are nice consolation prizes, but they aren't the top 3.

While I agree with your premise, in my eyes 2027 Capital is more valuable than an impact guy now. Until we have the QB, we want every single asset necessary to give us the best chance at the highest possible pick or the most assets so we can either afford a trade and have some left OR to over pay to convince someone to move off a pick they would otherwise not be willing to move from.

The only thing that matters, is that we find a QB at the end of this very terrible rainbow of Jets football. The best way to do that is the highest volume of the highest possible picks we can get. Do what it takes to go get more 2027 capital, especially if we can still land a hell of a prospect like Sonny Styles later in the top 5

if someone wants to trade up to 2 and give us their 2027 1st rounder....it's a no-brainer.  i don't give a freak who's available.

We need to draft 3 of them

Literally every single one of them has a realistic possibility of stinking up the 2026 CFB season and falling out of the first round.

Skip all the QBs, load up on defense again, lose every game 2-0.
