Problems with punctuation when copy pasting articles?

Not sure if it's just me but copy pasting articles or anything, but when I copy paste articles I tend to get errors on here all the time. And have to go through and delete all the punctuation to get it to go through. Notably comas, apostrophes, and dashes.

Anyone else have this problem? I'm using chrome so I have no idea why this would be -, '"

Seems like I can use all the punctuation normally without a problem though just a copy pasting issue

When the web host migrated us over and did the upgrade, they used the wrong characterset. So some punctuation is incompatible.

I looked into fixing it but there's no solution that might not make things worse.

I definitely have an apostrophe or quotation mark issue. Any time I have one in my post or in a quoted post the forum decides to give me an error.

I hate having to edit everything I am saying or that someone else said just to make my post work.

Truly annoying.
Need a new one for a new board...

It's not ideal, and I apologize...but attempting a fix could destroy the board. And I really don't have the motivation to rebuild this place a 3rd time

IIRC...the version of php we require isn't offered by our web host either, that's what stopped me dead in my tracks from fixing it last summer

Is there any kind of workaround?

Does it do the same thing with tapatalk?

Or what about some half assed backwards autofilter like is done with certain words on here?

Is there a way to have the autofilter change the bad punctuation to the correct punctuation automatically? Would that work?  Or would the autofilter kick in after the point of the error rendering itself ineffective?

So far..it only affects some punctuation (apostrophes, dashes, quotes).  If you post something copied from the interwebz, and you receive the error, take a look for any the punctuation i mentioned and replace it with the same punctuation from your keyboard.  That's the workaround.

no, i haven't seen it happen on tapatalk yet.

From what I've seen it's the double-quotes used, especially on news sites, that cause the problem. There are two characters that have double-quotes, the standard one on your keyboard right near your Enter key, and the fancy ones that look like a big dot with a comma hanging out of it (like you seen graphically in the quotation box on this site). It's the second one that's the problem.

The quickest workaround is to paste your copied text in a plain-text editor (such as Notepad) and find-and-replace any double-quotes. Then copy it all from Notepad, and paste it in the site's editor box.

Like MB said, trying to fix it might blow the whole thing up. We'll see what we can do but no promises.

Unfortunately this doesn't work with the Keep Notes app on my phone.

Is there a way to add a macro that would change out the characters?

Either on mobile devices or are the hot bar thingy above the text box?

FWIW the easiest lazy workaround I could come up with is just copy pasting articles into ai and asking it to remove all punctuation

But that's lame

No...i just replace the bad punctuation.  Much easier when you know what to look for.

On mobile that's kind of annoying

Especially if you're just using a web browser or posting a longer article

And if you miss one single one it's more annoying because then you get the error message then the page doesn't load etc
