Our schedule is different than years past too,  plus two games against the fins who are having an epic collapse of their own.

Plus I don't see any matchups left that we could potentially get blown out in.

I know power rankings mean excrement,  but we only play one team ranked above us,  and it's Carolina

It does if this team collapses. However, I think this team is somewhat independent of the prior 4 years of results, it's basically a new slate of players that are younger and more apt to improve as the season progresses.

The last few years Rex has had a talentless old team, that doesn't translate into effective late season pushes. I don't think a late season collapse is all that surprising and quite honestly to be expected. The Jets talent in 2011-2012 left a lot to be desired.

This year he has a better support staff (MM/Lee), a much younger dynamic. The only thing similar is he still has a mistake prone QB. If I had to guess I would be shocked if there was a collapse this year. If there was I would be very disappointed.

To be clear I am still fine with 8-8 and anything above, I think Rex did an absolutely fantastic job.

2012 I give you, but in 2011 there was a lot of talent still on this team. The bottom just fell out completely after Chiefs win. Plus all the excrement that went on at Miami in week 17, the anonymous sources, Derrick Mason etc don't speak too well for Rex.

There are also similarities to last years team in that none of the receiving options seem to stay healthy.

8-8 would also depend on the context, so I'm not gonna put a definite record which would satisfy me (like that matters to anyone) in extending or not extending Rex.

This team is notorius to playing at the same level as the opponent. Nothing is given at the latter part of the season.

This team has crushed weak offenses before to,  and almost every single team we play has one. Some pretty good defenses too,  but our defense alone should be good for at least 3 wins

The homerism in this thread is pissing me off.

I have yet to meet a NFL fan who doesn't believe this about their own team.

It's a Jets message board, what would you expect?

Don't know if it speaks about the parity of the league, but I certainly don't feel the same way about other teams that I follow in different sports.

I would expect most to at least be realistic.

We have a guy talking about "crushing" teams and literally all of the NYJ wins this season are by a field goal, a touchdown, or less.

I really do think it's a matter of parity. The teams of the NFL are probably closer in talent than we tend to believe they are.

"My team always plays down to their opponent" is a pretty common sentiment, and I've heard it plenty of times from fans of teams that are considered consistently successful.

It doesn't hurt that it's something you can think after any close game, whether your team won or lost, it could still feel like they "played down" just because they didn't do as well as you expected.

I think we're good for at least 1 double-digit win after the bye, but I don't expect any blowout wins.

I hope so.  My heart could use a break.

It might be retarded, but homerism in various degrees is to be expected on a fan messageboard of a sports team.

I'm fine with it most of the time.  It's just annoying when someone takes it a little too far, and that's what dcm's been doing since Sunday.

I think by and large this board is pretty grounded, we are neither SOJF nor homers.

I don't think talking playoffs for a 5-4 team second in the division and currently the 6th seed should be called "homerism". The playoffs are a distinct possibility at this point.

Crushing our opponents should not be talked about.
