this will be my last post about this, because i no longer want to continually repost the obvious when it comes to AVT and his ability to stay healthy enough to play games in the nfl.

i am in no way against the kid. i am a fan of the kid. he's a hard worker and has great character. none of that was what was being discussed. i am on board with bringing him back as well, but as OL6 as i mentioned before.

i hate to have to be any more direct about it, but this kid unfortunately had 3 different muscles literally torn off 3 different bones in 3 different places in a span of 3 years while trying to play in the nfl. it's happened 3 times. 3 times his muscles have ripped off of his bones trying to play in the nfl. these aren't flukes at this point. his bodily makeup unfortunately cannot handle playing in the nfl. his body has shown it to us 3 times now. this is what he is. and his injuries happened at both guard and at tackle.

pay him whatever you want, bring him back, cool. but it has to be as an extra lineman, a backup that can win a job if he happens to stay healthy (big if) and if he plays better than your other two actual starting guards. but pencilling this sort of player down as you starter going into the season is frank GM negligence.

we know he was very good playing guard and tackle his first 1.25 seasons playing. his 2024 was kind of derriere but so was everybody else's under carter/hackett.

but since his bright flashes in the first 1 1/4 seasons of his career all he's accomplished is, again, 3 different muscles rip off 3 different bones, all while just trying to be an NFL lineman.

bring him back on a short term, prove it deal under the contingency that we actually have a starting 5 outside of AVT. see if he can stay healthy, and see if he can play better than the actual starting guards. that should be the extent of the plan with AVT. if another dumbass team actually wants to pay him more and promise him a starting position from the get, let it be their lesson. this kid will unfortunately have another serious injury over the lifetime of a 4-5 year contract.

we cannot go into a season deludedly imagining this kid will be a healthy starter for us if we want to stop being a joke of a franchise that has nothing but lost, meaningless seasons.

For one year it is.

Think he'll sign a contract with no guarantees after 2026?

If he stays healthy and productive in 2026, he won't have to worry about not getting guaranteed money.

Quote from: Derek Smalls on February 21, 2026, 12:35:31 PMI agree, I think he'll be more expensive. He's a very hard contract to figure out because all it takes is one team to want to overpay him.

This is different than Becton. Becton played like crap in his last 2 years with the Jets, and his knee injuries are recurring, largely due to his weight. AVT's triceps injuries are likely a lot flukier. And while he wasn't as good in 2024 off the Achilles, that's an injury that usually takes 2 years to get back to full strength.

The Jets named AVT as a team captain a week before the season started. They were fully invested in him and fully believed in him. The previous staff was thrilled to let Becton go.

My primary concern is that all three injuries are tendon injuries, and whether that is indicative of a wider medical concern. I would normally say I'd entrust that to the medical experts employed by the team but at this point I don't trust a single thing about the Jets.

this was what i said in my previous post. all 3 injuries were the same mechanistically: the tendon connecting muscle to bone tearing apart. these arent flukes at this point. hes visibly showing us there is unfortunately something about the makeup of his body that has predisposed him to these injuries at the nfl level. hed likely be fine if he was playing you or me, but hes not. all a shame because he had talent and has been good in the locker room, but this has to be accounted for in team building.

Maybe it stems from a mental condition

It's just an aggregated article of previous articles by other journalists.

But the Cimini blurb is the thing with AVT. I value AVT a lot, and I would like to keep him. It seems like more people here are sick of his injuries and are ready to have another team take a chance on him.

That's probably why AVT will end up getting a pretty big deal. If one source thinks AVT is getting a 1-year prove-it deal, and another thinks he is getting a multi-year for $13M, he'll probably get the bigger contract. All it takes is one team.

Reese said he has met with the Jets. This was his takeaway:

"That meeting was a lot of install, to see where my head was at. I think that's a serious organization. I respect the guys that I met with. I respect the room."
