Rules of Jet Offensive

(1/1)

Johnny English:
Welcome to the Jet Offensive Forums. We’re a very welcoming and tolerant bunch at JO, but there are one or two guidelines that you’ll need to respect if your stay is to be a long one.

The Jet Offensive forum pages constitute a satirical site whose postings bear little or no relation to fact. Believe nothing, take nothing seriously. The hosts of the site take no responsibility for the messages posted by visitors to the site, that responsibility lies with the poster. Some of the humour of this site may be adult in nature and as such should only be viewed by responsible adults. Following any link on this site acknowledges acceptance of those principles and also the principle of an individual’s right to freedom of thought and freedom of expression. If you don't like it here, don't come.

Anyway, those rules:

1. Flaming. We like a good vent as much as the next guy, and sometimes they deserve it, but there are limits. We will not tolerate comments that are racist or bigoted in nature, nor will we allow random outbursts of abuse. If you disagree with someone’s post or point of view feel free to tell them so, but tell them why.

2. Use of language. This is not Twitter or an SMS conversation, and we don’t charge by the letter to post on JO. You aren’t required to consult with your English teacher before pressing “Submit”, but please don’t type in txt spk or use unnecessary amounts of emoticons and smilies in your message. You may be 16 years old, but we’re not.

3. Us and Them. All are welcome on JO, young and old, black and white, fat and thin. We even tolerate Patriots fans (more of that next). We don’t mind which other websites you read, write on or moderate. However, we do not exist to be a refuge for the exiled and the wronged from the rest of the web. If someone on another site has upset you, please don’t use our pages to plead your case. We love and respect all other websites equally, and would ask that you do the same – at least in public.

4. Trolling. Football is only interesting because there’s an opposition, and where there’s an opposition there are opposition fans. Although JO was founded by fans of the New York Jets and has a distinct Jets’ bias, we equally welcome fans of all other teams to join and contribute. However, constant manipulation of threads as to why your quarterback is the best thing since ketchup came in squeezy bottles, regardless of its relevance, will not go down well.

5. Spam. You are welcome to post links to articles from other sites. However, please respect the rules of those sites – don’t cut and paste entire articles on to the forums. Other sites put just as much work into their articles as we do into ours, and we know how little we appreciate our work being appropriated in that way.

6. NSFW. Not Safe For Work. This is an adult forum and sometimes adult material will be linked on here. We’re fine with that, within reason. However, please do not post pictures of naked or nearly naked people on the JO forums, no matter how beautiful they may be. Before posting pictures or videos, ask yourself whether they’re likely to get the reader into trouble if their boss is looking over their shoulder. If they would, don’t post it.

7. Swearing. JO is not a website written for children. If you don’t like strong language, there are other sites that may be better suited to you. That having been said, there’s nothing big or clever about swearing. Making every third word an F-bomb doesn’t make your point more effectively, so please don’t treat the site like a bathroom stall and cover it in the sort of language that would get you a slap from your mother.

8. Multiple Accounts. You don’t need a second account if you have a first one. If you had your first one taken away, it’s because you don’t deserve one at all. No duplicate accounts, please – we will catch you.

9. Disciplinary Procedures. All disciplinary procedures are the decision of the moderators and admins. For minor offences, offenders will receive warnings. Too many warnings will trigger restrictions of membership rights. For more serious offences, bans of durations between a day and forever will be handed out by the moderators and admin. There is no set scale of punishment; each offence is assessed based upon its severity and the poster’s history.

10. No Doxing. Doxing is the publishing of real world information about a member. That means no posting other members' real names, email addresses, locations, inside leg measurements or anything else related to them in the world outside of the internet. Members have real jobs, some of them quite responsible, and might quite legitimately not want a customer or employer to be able to Google "eustace jets fan" and find some of their comments on here.
