Late risers
« on: April 23, 2014, 10:36:49 AM »
I was thinking of some players that could make a late run up the boards, allowing better players to fall to the Jets at 18.
Ryan Shazier, Calvin Pryor and Bradley Roby came to mind.  Maybe these guys go before us, allowing someone else to slip to 18.  I don't think these guys really belong before 18, but might go there.

No way Ryan Shazier lasts that long. And Pryor is overrated anyway, and I don't think he'll be a good fit here.

How Bradly Roby made it onto your list I have no fuckn clue. But I'll let that slide.
"Wrong!"

Late risers always make me suspicious. I'd usually rather have the guy who was a top 5 prospect a year ago and fell (ie. Coples).

Not sure who that would be this year, unless the Bridgewater talk is true.

I was thinking of players that don't belong there, but do go before us (not TO us). Roby has no business going before us, but I've seen him mocked there.

I'd love for a bunch of overrated prospects to go in the top 17, allowing the real deal to fall to us.

Me too.  We fell for that with Stephen Hill in the second round.

Can you imagine the draft boner we'd all have had a year ago if we suspected Bridgewater might be there for us at 18?

And who was the former top guy who fell? Alshon Jeffery.

I don't know if he will be drafted ahead of the Jets, Xavier Su'a-Filo, OG, UCLA is rising fast. He's a great Kid and an outstanding talent that is getting more and more recognition.

He'a player that will start from day one and have a solid career.

I think it would be Marquis Lee wouldn't it?

Do you think he belongs in the top 17?

Talent wise, probably, but I don't know if a GM will draft a Guard that high. He's a good player, but not as good as the 2 guards from UNC & Bama last year.

It's not happening here, but I hate when people throw around the term "late riser" so liberally.

There's been a bit of that with Blake Bortles, from the people who never heard of him before January (and because he declared early, so he wasn't appearing in mocks before then).

EJ Manuel was a good example of a late riser, he was talked about as a mid-round pick for months then shot up to the first.
