2024 Jets offseason
« on: February 16, 2024, 06:13:41 AM »
Rich Cimini
@RichCimini
#Jets have 4 players with contracts that void today -- OT Duane Brown, DE Carl Lawson, S Jordan Whitehead and DT Quinton Jefferson. Gives them an early start on free agency.

Downside: They will count $15.8M on cap (Lawson $6.3M, Brown $4.7M, Whitehead $3.3M, Jefferson $1.5M).

I don't mind bringing Whitehead and Jefferson back at the right price.

Whitehead should be brought back if a reasonable deal, but I don't care about Jefferson one way or the other. Brown and Lawson can GTFO

JD gave Carl Lawson a $45M contract for 23 games, only 17 of them were starts. And even restructured him with 4 years of dead money worth $6.3M.

Bring back Whitehead and Jefferson.

Whatever tarot cards Douglas uses to predict the health of his free agent signings....he needs a new set.  Most of his "mistakes" are due to injury not talent.

$11 million dollars in 2024 for two players who were entirely worthless in 2023.

Joe Douglas stinks.  I can look past his bad draft picks; what he did with void year money in the 2023 offseason is unforgiveable.

Can you imagine if Rodgers had just barely cleared 65% of this season's snaps?

Yeah, we'd probably have made the postseason. We finished 7-9 and Tim Boyle took meaningful snaps, 65% of Rodgers would have comfortably got us to 10 wins.

Also depends on which 35% he missed.  If he was injured early and came back mid-season, who knows what would have happened.  I'd have cared much less about losing a first rounder if we made a deep playoff run.

Have you seen the amount of dead money other teams have? We're not even in the top half of the league for that

We have the second most dead money in the league as of now for 2024, but that will change as teams make roster moves.

freak, yeah, my bad. I meant dead money + cap space, but we're worse than I thought even taking that into account.

What will upset you more, signing Bakhtiari or signing only a couple of mediocre hybrid gord/tackles?

If we sign Bakhtiari I will convince myself that he's got a couple of seasons of top quality play left and that we're going to get the benefit of the surgeries and recoveries that he's had on Green Bay's dime, but it will be a phenomenal risk to take.
