2014 Mets Thread
« on: February 21, 2014, 11:01:36 AM »
So far this offseason, we've picked up a couple of aging, unreliable, potentially home-run hitting outfielders and the most beautiful looking derriere in baseball.

With Wheeler/Syndergaard/Montero/Meija all on strict innings limits, here's to another season of mediocrity and waiting for prospects to develop. Hopefully only one of them develops an arm condition that keeps them from pitching next year.

And don't forget, we get to enjoy the incredible battle between Ike "Oscillates between being the worst batter in the MLB and a poor man's Ryan Howard" Davis and Lucas "Somewhat Dominant triple-A slugger" Duda this spring. Hurray.

But at least we've got Steven Matz.

I'll probably be more interested in Spring Training than the first third / half of the season when Syndergaard comes up.

I'm already pissed off that they seem to be committed to starting Chris Young in CF and Young Jr. in LF and Lagares on the bench, but I'm excited to watch Wheeler and either Montero/Meija as (hopefully) the fifth starter. The rotation should be pretty good next year.

Giants traded wheeler for beltran, who played like excrement and skipped town in fa. Then he started playing good again.

If you stretched out Beltran's fifty games or so with you over a full season, that's MVP caliber and easily his best season since 2004. If he stayed healthy you guys would've done fine with that trade.

That being said, being on a board with a Giant fan and Blue Jays fans is one of the only things this season has got going for it.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Left-hander Jonathon Niese, projected to be the Opening Day starter for the Mets, is being sent to New York for a medical exam after complaining of shoulder pain.

"I wanted to keep it quiet. It's just a precautionary thing to make sure it's not worse from last year," Niese told ESPNNewYork.com. "I just want peace of mind."

Niese landed on the disabled list June 21 with a partial tear in his left rotator cuff. He did not return until Aug. 11.

And so it begins...

Sounds like he's okay.

I feel like we're going to have some real issues keeping our rotation healthy this season, though.

Predicted record: 73-89. I've rarely looked forward to an opening day less, and now Chris Young is injured already and we have a bunch of people battling the flu. And an outfielder playing second base.

I wish there was a rule that doesn't permit you to own a NY/NJ sports team if your last name starts with W

Well, at least they are letting you know early how this season will go. Not like those pesky Knicks.
