For people in their 20s it's a cut that'll happen in 40 years
Not exactly political suicide
Means testing a little more complicated, but I can't see that as something that would have a profound impact meaning it's probably a dumb idea
To be clear, neither raising the age nor means testing would solve the impending shortfall of the 2030s. They either need to raise taxes to fill the deficit OR make it legal for social security to spend without the constraint of the "trust fund."
If raising the age doesn't pee people off it's because they're hopelessly cucked.
And means testing:
-will create a very resentful class of people who pay into the program without receiving the benefit, eroding its popularity
-greatly increases the administrative costs of determining who is and isn't eligible
-will result in many more cases of people who may be eligible for it but fail to navigate the increased complexity of applying
...all for an extremely questionable boost to the program's solvency. Kick too many people off and it becomes another dirty word "welfare" program that more people want to get rid of, kick too few off and the effect isn't great enough to fix the issue. Lose/lose.
