Quote
The New York Jets have announced adjustments to their MetLife Stadium season ticket pricing for the 2014 NFL season.

Prices in the stadium's upper level will decrease on average a little more than 10 percent. In the lower level, prices will increase an average of 3 percent. Prices for mezzanine level tickets will remain unchanged from 2013.

The adjustments will result in an overall lowering of ticket prices by about 1 to 2 percent.

"We understand the sacrifices many of our fans make to attend our games," Jets President Neil Glat said. "We carefully study and assess market demand based on many factors, including the secondary market, prices around the National Football League, and prices for other sports and entertainment offerings in the New York market. Our goal is to maximize the number of season ticket holders in our building in an effort to create a substantial homefield advantage.

"We're also always looking to add value for our season ticket holders. For us, the focus is not only for the 10 games in the stadium but also offering a lot more Jets activities year round, such as Jets House during Super Bowl week, draft parties, and conference calls with our season ticket holders, among many other benefits."

I like how they say "for the 10 games in the stadium" and not "for the 8 games and 2 practice thingies".

That is the way it should be.  The people that sit in the lower levels can absorb that increase, all the while providing the less fortunate people the ability to actually make a game.

Sorry, generalizing.

I really, really hate this perception that pervades all sports, not just football, that the fans with a bit more coin who can afford the posh seats from which you can actually discern such minor details like individual players and the ball are somehow less committed than those fans who are sitting with the gods. I've spent plenty of time in corporate boxes at soccer and hockey (all courtesy of other people much richer than myself, I should add) and while you do get the odd few - clients, usually - who are more interested in the beer and the menu than the game, the vast majority of box and suite owners are every bit as hardcore in their support. They're just a bit fatter, and warmer.

I am not sure if this is just a vent, or if you thought my post was implying that.  I am by no means implying that an upper deck fan is any less of a fan as a court side seat ticket holder.  The article stated that it was bumping the lower section (the more financially sound), and giving it to the higher section (the less financially sound) so to speak.  Again generalizing.

It was a response to Badger, which is why I quoted him.

My dad always says he's undefeated at tailgating

Maybe it's not I who doesn't know what he's talking about

I thought so, but I've never been one to pass up an opportunity to vent my spleen.

Just found out that as of now my group's number of tickets is getting cut in half. The guy who was the STH for half of them is dropping out. He's retired with a bum leg so it's all become too much for him to continue. We're probably going to try to increase the number of seats under our other STH, so the price decrease was pretty good timing. The only downside is that now we'll have more competition trying to find 4+ good seats together. Right now we have 3 in UD Prime so hopefully we can at least one more seat and possibly move closer to the 50.

If I'm going to take the time and energy to go to a football game, I want good seats. Going from $80 to $250 isn't that big of a deal if it's just for one game a season, so it's not like everyone in the lower levels is super rich.

Wow, and I had you pegged as a socialist. My bad.

My friend has seats in 103 and I pay him face when I take his tickets so I'll be paying a bit more, I guess. But I only get to a couple games a year right now so it's not a big deal. Just win the game, that's all I remember by the following week.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.
