JO Mock Rules and Start Date
« on: February 09, 2014, 04:43:54 PM »
START TIME

I want to ask all of you when you think we should start this up.  I'm fine with kicking it off at any time.

Do you want to wait until next weekend?  ...or do you want to start it up ASAP?

We can either start it on February 15th (next Saturday), tonight, or mid-week.

I have the first pick.  I'd be happy to kick things off unofficially this evening if everyone is down.

HOW IT WORKS

I'm not going to do time slots for the third rounder.  We've got plenty of time to get this thing done before the NFL Combine.

It shouldn't take someone more than three hours to make a selection.  If your pick is coming up and you know you won't be around, send someone your board so things can keep moving.

FORMAT

Formatting is going to be simplified as well.

For each pick, just make it look like this:

Quote
With the 18th pick, the New York Jets select:  PLAYER'S NAME - POSITION - SCHOOL

The Miami Dolphins are now on the clock.  PM sent to USERNAME OF NEXT GM

Pictures and colors and all of that stuff will be optional (but encouraged) this time around.

MAIN RULES

PM:

Set your PM system up so you get notifications sent to the email you check most frequently.  Most of us have smart phones and we can get email notifications that way.

You have to PM the poster that's picking after you.  It's the only way we can keep things moving smoothly.

Undrafted Player Names:

Don't mention undrafted players by name in the discussion thread.  Try not to make hints about these players either.

TRADES:

We're going to use this draft value chart:  http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

Just try to make the values match up as much as possible.

We're only trading picks, not players.

Because this is the first time we're doing this, each GM will only get ONE trade.  If it goes well, we'll up it for the 7 rounder that will be held in late March/early April.

ASAP, Please

Edit:  You mention that each GM will have 1 trade, which I am fine with.  Per round, or total.  Again, I am fine with whatever.

One trade for the entire three rounds (per team).  We don't want a wannabe Belichick trading back 50 times.

It's going to be weird for a three rounder, because trading back won't be much fun in the last round.  This is more or less a test run for the seven rounder.  I want to see if it's annoying or not.

I'll say this, I'd rather wait until next weekend, simply because I don't have draft boards ready for 2 teams, and at work I won't be able to check in at all. On the weekends, I can live on the CPU and at a minimum gives me more time to make 2 draft boards.

I'd say hold off until next weekend.  Now that the trade thread is up give it a few days to see if GMs wants to set up potential deals before we get to the official start.

I really think the trades are an insignificant part of this draft, since you only have 3 rounds and not a lot of ammo to work with.....so waiting a week seems pointless.

Also, trades are more likely to come when the draft is under way and people see opportunities to move based on picks already made.

This is really more of a testing phase for the trades.

I was ready to get started, but I'm OK with waiting, as long as we finish before the combine starts.

Looking closer at the trades rules, one trade per gm or one trade per team? It makes a difference for 2 GM teams.

Per team - look at my response to hawk's previous post

I'm good with whenever.

Though only trading I plan to do is for a Graveler so it becomes a Golem.
