In Caldwell's defense, three winning seasons in four years in Detroit is pretty good, especially since they haven't won more than 6 games since he left.

I think it's fair to throw him and Marvin Lewis in the same boat. Lewis is the better candidate of the two though. I don't like that Caldwell had health issues last year and he was out of the NFL 2 of the last 3 years.

Difference is that the winning seasons he had with those Lions rosters were underachivements (Lewis may have underachieved with the Bengals a couple of times, but he built them to that point; Caldwell didn't)

But... why?

Marvin Lewis literally has never won a playoff game

Fisher made the titans a legit contender for a while, and set up the Rams to eventually become one as well (even though everyone rides Mcvays dick) not to mention he was one of the more prominent leaders as far the nfl goes

Neither are on my wish list. But at least I think Fisher could bring some good with him

Fisher almost destroyed Gurley's career before it got started.  freak him, he sucks.

Caldwell's greatest achievement as HC was riding Peyton's coattails to a SB loss.
You mean besides his two super bowl wins?

I'm not stomping my feet for him but you guys have been killing me about Caldwell all season and now you're getting excited about ML

No one is as excited about Marvin Lewis as you are about Jim Caldwell.

Marvin is the definition of a safe pick.

I don't know the answer to this, but why did Marvin ultimately flame out in Cincy?  Was it him, his staff, the talent?  I think I remember it being the consistent failure in the playoffs, but I'm not sure why that happened.

I think you answered your own question.  It was probably a combination of all the things you mentioned.  Plus, he'd been there for over a decade...sometimes the message in the lockeroom gets a little stale if you're not taking that next step to better results.

I was going to make a joke about how he would replace Frank Gore with a younger guy like Cedric Benson. Googled to check that Benson was younger than Gore, I was right and he was but it turns he also died in 2019 in a motorcycle accident. I had no idea.

JFC, no.

The delusional selling of Marvin Lewis can stop now.

Nobody is advocating for Marvin Lewis.  It's just a discussion of where he fits in the HC pecking order.
