That will be pretty tough with the numbers he slated to make in 2015 and 2016.  Unless you think he is going to take a pay cut.  The only thing they have to work with is his base salary. 

I doubt Brees takes a pay cut. He doesn't have enough room on his schedule to film more commercials to make up the difference.

85% of Brees's 2014 salary is earmarked for mole removal, I don't think Brees has any room left for pay cuts. The Saints are screwed.

I second this.  He certainly fits the bill as a QB you wouldn't want as your full-time starter, but wouldn't worry about him stepping into that role on a temporary basis.

Probably not, but at this stage of his career he might be prepared to make less in exchange for a better shot at starting. He has presumably been made aware, explicitly or implicitly, that he doesn't have much of a chance of getting the job in Minny.

Cassel got a 6 year 63 million dollar contract with 27 million and change guaranteed from the Chiefs not long ago.

Good 2nd string qbs (which I presume Cassel is considered by most teams) get 3-4 million a year. Matt Moore got a 2 year 8 million dollar contract only a year ago.

So its not like hes doing anything crazy by leaving Minny. Worst case scenario he makes maybe a million dollars less than he would with the Vikings, but hes already made bank and would be able to go somewhere more ideal to live.

Odds are very very good though that he gets a deal close to if not better than what he got with the Vikings though
