Assistant coaching changes & rumors
« on: January 18, 2014, 09:12:33 AM »
Hmmmm.  Guess we can file this under "rumor" for now.

Brian Costello ‏@BrianCoz 7m

ESPN 980 in D.C. reported the Jets requested permission to interview Redskins DC Jim Haslett but were denied. Interesting #nyj

Well, Haslett is staying in DC, but the real point of this is that they are/were looking, period.  Might be a "just in case" scenario, or maybe Thurman is hitting the bricks.

I don't think Thurman is coming back as the defensive coordinator.

I dont think he is either. but I'm not sure what Rex will do without DT.  Hasnt DT been on the same staff as Rex since 2001? Rex and DT are very attached.

i dont mean that to indicate DT is somehow Rexs key to success, because he isnt. But its just going to be interesting going forwards.

I wonder if Rex just doesn't bother having a DC.  Didn't Belichick do that a few years ago?

Jake Steinberg ‏@Steiny31 1h

#Jets have interest in Seattle DB Coach Kris Richard. Could be one of the reasons the coaching staff shakeup is taking so long.

Steiny is on the case.

Hiring Richard would be ideal though - the Jets could also bring in Walter Thurmond III as a free agent

Isn't the idea that he should become less hands-on?

Haslett can freak off.

Agreed, I wish they didn't bother with him at all.

Rich Cimini ‏@RichCimini 11m
Assistant HC/running backs coach Anthony Lynn, whose contract was expiring, has re-upped with the #Jets, per league source.

I would assume Richard would be the DC and his contract is not expiring in Seattle this season? Seattle's DBs sure as excrement play the way Rex wants his DBs to play. Hopefully we can bring this guy in and he can get our corners back to playing truly physical football like they did a few years back.
