Also, this flies right in the face of everyone who thought Rex couldn't work with Idzik or that Idzik was intent on bringing in "his guy" despite Idzik clearly stating he likes working with Rex.

Now Marty really has to get that offense clicking.

Agree with both. I never believed that hype, Idzik took the job knowing Rex was the coach. The plus side is most GMs first big decision often makes or breaks them because they have to pick a coach right away, Idzik had time to get adjusted and work with the roster without having to hope he picked the right coach.

Having said all of that I miss some of Rex's old bluster like the time he was goading that Dolphin with "I've thrown tougher guys out of the way to get to a fight."

It sounds like most of the money becomes guaranteed if Ryan wins in the postseason.  If he doesn't, the money isn't guaranteed and the Jets have an easy out. 

It's a great contract for the franchise.

As long he enters player contract negotiations (you know, where there's an actual limit on the amount the team can spend) the same way, I'm fine with it. Giving Rex a non-guaranteed deal doesn't benefit anyone but Woody.

There's always the option to escape, teams do it and coaches do it. This is better than letting him sit on a final year. Rex will always have a job in the NFL, I want what is best for us which is stability and a coach who can win, both of which we can achieve by keeping Rex as long as possible.
