Selection: Cameron Clark, OT, CharlotteThe pick: Fourth round, 129th overallPast selections at No. 129: CB Isaiah Johnson (Raiders), OT Will Richardson (Jaguars), OT David Sharpe (Raiders), DB Derrick Kindred (Browns), LB Jake Ryan (Packers)What it means: You just knew Mekhi Becton wouldn’t be the only lineman drafted by the Jets this year. And Clark, whom the Jets selected in the fourth, has the two traits Douglas covets the most: Versatility and dependability. He started the last three years at Charlotte and has experience playing all five positions on the offensive line. While Clark (6-4, 308) said he prefers tackle, his future in the NFL is likely at guard.Douglas says: “Another kid who was a leader in his program. I love his tenacity. I love his mentality. I love the way he finishes.”Dane says: A three-year starter at Charlotte, Clark lined up at left tackle in the head coach Will Healy’s spread offense. He was considered a free agent NFL prospect by teams last summer, but he answered several questions as a senior and his 2019 Clemson tape alone should get his name called on draft weekend. Despite multiple offensive line coaches over his Charlotte career, Clark is fundamentally sound with his movements and is rarely caught off guard, staying in a ready position. NFL-level speed off the edge will stress him, which is why kicking inside to guard might be the best long-term plan. Overall, Clark wins with his cerebral, technical approach, but he also has a physical side to him, projecting as a developmental interior blocker with starting upside.Assessing the position: The Jets added bodies to their offensive line room this offseason. But just free-agent signing Connor McGovern and first-round pick Mekhi Becton were guaranteed spots on the roster beyond 2020. Clark gives the team a player to develop and potentially step in as a starter next year.
"Hello good sir GM, may we pretty please have your throwaway centers and gords please??!? I'll suck yo'dick!"
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.
All for adding linemen, especially tackles, where else we getting them? Pretty sure Jason Fabini was a mid round pick, started for our good Parcells teams.
Once we got Becton I was pretty happy, IMO pressure was off getting another lineman in the draft so I'm glad we didn't reach or trade additional picks for another.
