I have zero interest in defending the guy at all, as mental illness doesn't absolve anyone of their actions.

But it's seemingly a missing thing from this conversation, the dude apparently has a legit mental disorder. Yet it seems like the story is getting framed in a very different light.

Throw the guy under the bus, lock him up, treat him like a piece of excrement. But at least use it as a opportunity for mental illness awareness

It's about this being an opportunity to encourage  discussions about mental illness.

I thought sports decided that social issues were near and dear to their heart. So why is the major social issue being completely glossed over here?

I had Seattle as one of my teams in a mock on another site. Traded their second round pick for a pair of thirds and took Deonte Brown and D'Wayne Eskridge, which I think they'd be pretty happy with.
