Just think that there are what 3 units on the team that are any good? QB, ILB and S.

Our defensive line is very good too.

CB and EDGE need to be fixed on defense.

WR is a concern on offense.

We aren't far off from being competitive, but it will take another offseason.  If we aren't competing for a playoff spot in 2021, something has gone seriously wrong.

We should be competitive for a spot this year. We ended up 7-9, not too far off the pace, despite a ton of problems we don't need to rehash. By 2021 we should be stronger and better to compete for a bye or a title but with Brady out of the division there's no reason we shouldn't be in the hunt all the way to the end this year.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

We have a horrible calendar and the roster is too thin. Competing is not out of the question but a normal season would have us at 8-8 or even again at 7-9. As long as Darnold takes a leap, I’ll be happy with that, and ready to properly compete in 2021.

The Dline should be good given that's seemingly all that Duff drafted. Funny, the best players aren't ones you wold expect from his drafts. I don't expect the Jets to really compete this year. Fortunately, Football is a sport where rebuilds are relatively quick.

As long as were playing meaningful football and in reach of a wildcard towards the end of the season I’ll be happy. Not a stretch to say we can compete for the division or a late wildcard I think

We have no idea what state this team will be in come the start of the season.

There's no primary receiver, just a bunch of potentials and question marks.

If there's little to no offseason activity, it's going to take a few games of actual play for the new OL to gel. Then depending on how poorly they play before that, it may take time for Sam to have any trust in them.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if they win half their games. This isn't a competing year, it's "keep Sam alive and let him grow" year. Believing in more than that is setting yourself up for disappointment.
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well

While I absolutely don't see this as a team meant or even capable of winning now. Depending on who the Patriots get to play QB, every team could win this division. And I don't mean that as the generic bullshit where people say that about every team

I think this is going to be the hardest division to predict for the league

Joe Douglas on Brian Winters: "We should have a really good competition for our starting 5."

So, Winters will remain on the Jets

I’m going with coach/GM speak. I won’t believe it until we are putting our week 1 roster on the field and he’s still on it
Need a new one for a new board...

He's one of three guards on the roster with any kind of worthwhile experience, along with Lewis and van Roten. It makes no sense to not at least keep him through camp, and probably all season.

Yeah, I doubt he goes anywhere.  When van Roten's contract details were released it became clear that he was signed to be a back-up with an outside chance of winning a starting job, not Winters' replacement.

When is the point Winters' salary becomes guaranteed for the year?

I don't believe it does, he's had all the guaranteed money. Now it's just salary, presumably if we sack him we can stop paying him.

As much as we like that Douglas addressed the OL, it looks like his solution this year is to load up the OL with depth and let guys compete for spots. Lewis and GVR should beat out Winters, but if Winters is healthy, he can push them.

We also could still cut him after the draft.
