Either it's March or for depth.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

$7M is a lot of money to spend on depth

Going to go with, “It’s March and we don’t need the money yet.”

Did he have any type of bonus related to him being on the team at the start of the league year?

They want to make sure Van Roten gets through camp injury and Ron free lol only thing I can think of

Or they're waiting for a bigger deal to be agreed upon and cut him to pull that trigger

Unless we're activating some kind of roster bonus by keeping him

I assume it's because he could theoretically be trade bait.

The dudes on an expiring contract for a reasonable number. If a team is desperate for a guard, he could possibly fetch us something.

The dude isn't good, but if healthy he's surely better than some guards that will be starting for some teams.

But regardless I don't see why you cut him before the draft unless there's a financial reason to do so

And sportrac is down but it seems like 7.2 million of the 7. 5 owed to him isn't guaranteed. So he could be worth holding onto for trade bait

I hate him, but he can stay if he restructures his deal down to $4M or less.

No rush to get rid of him even if they are 100% doing it.  They aren't butting up against the cap.  Might as well sit tight and see what happens.

I know he was trash last year but it sounds like he was literally being scotch taped together.

I wouldn't mind restructuring his contract and keeping him just for the sake of showing players that we value playing through injury.

My initial thought is because we are trying to trade him. If we can’t (and don’t need the money first) he will be with us until the draft. Afterwards we would cut him assuming we get an interior OL in here we really like

We can't trade him.

He is coming off of an injury and players can't get physicals right now.

That probably has a lot to do with why Cam Newton wasn't traded.
