Pretty sure Douglas scouted Perriman for Baltimore...

Perriman probably has more upside than Anderson. Perriman can do a lot of the deep things Anderson can do. And he's bigger. He played like a stud in the last few games of the season. He has more downside, too, but on a 1-year deal, there's little risk.

In a normal offseason, I would be fine making this swap. This offseason, I would prefer the continuity with Robby Anderson staying. But I'm fine with this swap.

This is kind of like Fant for Beachum. Fant has a wider range of outcomes than Beachum. If you tell me one is a Pro Bowler this year, I would say Fant. If you asked me if Perriman or Anderson had a better chance to make the Pro Bowl, I would say Perriman. But both can also fail.

It seems like Douglas is doing everything he can to keep 2021 as clean as possible on the books.

He's positioning himself to get rid of Adam Gase if need be.

Per Manish the deal is for $6M with a max value of $8M.

So half the price of Robby Anderson...

I still would have preferred Anderson, especially since he settled for a two year deal.  I thought he'd get at least three.

It's not a major deal; Crowder and Herndon are more important for Sam IMO.  But he and Robby were developing some really obvious chemistry and I hate to see that continuity disrupted.

As long as he doesn't get Sam killed, this is the smart long-term move.

I think Anderson's inability to do much over the middle of the field actually hurt Sam more than we think.

Anderson is an elite deep threat and that's hard to find, but that's really all he could do at a high level.  He could run comebacks and fly routes all day, but everything else was not very good.

Perriman is a player that can actually move around in a formation and win down the seam and over the middle.  I think their production will be similar.

How is it a hot take?

Nearly everything Douglas has done is correctable in 2021.

It creates a more enticing situation for a head coach.
