Sources: Kobe Bryant was on his way to a travel basketball game with his daughter Gianna when the helicopter crashed. Those aboard the helicopter also included another player and parent.

Tough to see someone my age with a family go like that so suddenly.  I can't imagine what his family is going through losing both.  Makes petty excrement we worry about everyday seem so stupid.

“It [didn’t] sound right and it was real low. I saw it falling and spluttering. But it was hard to make out as it was so foggy,” Kocharian said. The helicopter vanished into a cloud of fog and then there was a boom.

“There was a big fireball,” he said. “No one could survive that.”

Still can't wrap my mind around the fact that he's gone. One of the greatest competitors I've ever seen in sports. There will never be another Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were among nine people who died in a helicopter crash Sunday in Calabasas and how does that happen? Kobe is stronger than any helicopter. He didn’t even need a helicopter. For 20 years he flew into greatness while carrying a breathless city with him.

This can’t be true.

Kobe does not die. Not now. Kobe lives into his golden years, lives long enough to see his statues erected outside Staples Center and his jerseys inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He lives long enough to sit courtside at Staples when he’s stooped and gray, keeping alive the memories of two decades of greatness with a wink, maybe even fooling everyone one last time by retiring in a community next to Shaq.

At this point I feel weird for not feeling hurt by this personally.

I've already reached the point of being annoyed that sports radio on my way to work this morning was talking about Kobe and not tonight's hockey.

Depends how much thought you gave him when he was playing.

I hated those Laker teams, not just because of him, but I was glad the year they beat Boston and thought he was good for the game. Being a Dodger fan, he's around the team a lot, so a lot of the players I follow on Twitter and Instagram were pretty emotional. Kobe just sent Belinger a congrats video for his MVP the other night. Now I coach girls the same age as his daughter, so that part hit home a it for me. Obviously we don't helicopter to the games.
