My dad always says he's undefeated at tailgating

Maybe it's not I who doesn't know what he's talking about

Opening day postponed due to Nationals players contracting COVID...again.

You know it’s bad when it’s the Home team’s announcers saying they should reverse the call

What a total farce.

If I were Donnie Baseball, the next time Conforto steps up to the dish he's getting a fastball right between the numbers from whoever's on the mound.

uhh, that's not a conforto thing. a lot of players in the mlb try to eliminate the strike zone and may try to game 'averting HBPs' to try to get on base. they even had the replay to get the call right. that's an umpiring issue and a rule issue

They said it’s not a reviewable call

Derek Dietrich says hello

Crowding the plate or leaning out over it are not the same as deliberately extending your elbow into the pitch. In the strike zone.

Yup.

"He stuck his elbow right into that pitch."

Cheap(t) win.

Couldn't agree more.

Before anyone accuses me of cherrypicking or drawing false equivalences, one of the distinct pleasures of watching far too many Mets/Marlins games over the years was getting to watch Derek Dietrich deliberately lean into pitches (whether they were inside of the strike zone or not). I was only meaning to point out the irony of this happening to the Marlins.

Just take the W and admit he fucked around to get it. Then we can forget about the super cheap play and move on.

our 'leaning in and getting hit' view is conforto's or a gillion other players' 'i was actually posturing my body away from that pitch and it hit me' cop out

again, it happens all the time. there are a lot of things broken with the game but this easily doesn't have to be one of them. enforce the rule better/make the calls right. that not being a reviewable/changeable call again leads to this being a systems issue
