I mean the dude deserves all the credit in the world and then some if Darnold becomes what we think he will be.

Sure what the guy did was heavily inspired by  freaking luck, but there's usually a lot of luck involved in landing a franchise guy

I dont get how it was luck.  If landing sam was lucky so is making any type of investment that doesnt have a 100% chance return on your investment

He traded for the pick how many weeks before the draft, presumably under the expectation that two QB's could be off the board before his pick

If I can remember correctly they didn't even expect Sam to be there at 3, probably had his eye on Allen Rosen or Mayfield

By the time of the trade it was widely thought the giants were taking Barkley, and I’m guessing the Jets has a good idea that the rumor had truth behind it. At that point it’s Baker or Sam, either of which would have been a great trade. I wouldn’t really say it was luck.

At the time it was a shrewd choice to make. We had to have been sure we would have been happy with 3 different QBs. The rumors were Baker was our guy because it was always believed Sam would be #1. But while we thought the Giants would stick and take Barkley, there was also rumor the only QB they would even consider would be Sam. And of course the option to trade the pick existed. So really it was shrewd and opened the door for what I think was the best case scenario for us, but in no way could the fact we have Sam Darnold still not be considered Lucky.

Getting sam took planning, alot of work, and calculated risk.
It wasn't luck.
