Jets 53 man roster predictions
« on: August 15, 2019, 11:13:59 PM »
Thread is simple enough, predict the final roster. We’ve now seen 2 preseason games, have a pretty good idea who the top guys are and have some data on the lower roster guys. Guttural bragging rights to the guy with the best prediction.

I’ll probably put something together this weekend.
Need a new one for a new board...

Oof. CB is such a glaring hole.

Its nice to see that the trenches has so much depth though. I'm not sure if Cannon makes the team. Is his ability as a gunner enough to get him a roster spot? He adds nothing on offense, and I'm not convinced that he's a better KR than Dortch.

I'm not going to lie, some of those names that I put on the roster at CB might have been made up. It's comical. I know next-to-nothing about Maulet and Kyron Brown.

I didn't put that much effort into the above list. I kind of just made projections on the guys I thought would likely make it, then counted up the total roster spots, got 53, and hit post.

Either Charone Peake or Trenton Cannon should make the team, Boyer's earned at least one of his guys.  Probably Cannon because Peake has likely peaked.
But it's entirely possible they both lose their spots to the cornerback(s) we need to bring in.

Peake is more valuable than Cannon.

He is a better overall ST player.

He shook my hand breed tub and walked away

Gonna need Joe Douglas to come up with some clever signings at CB and K during training camp cuts
My dad always says he's undefeated at tailgating

Maybe it's not I who doesn't know what he's talking about

How do training camp cuts work? Do those guys go through the waiver system or are they UFAs? Because from what I glean from Twitter, Arizona is at least as bad off as us at corner and I would assume they still have higher waiver priority before the season starts.
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well

Another thing- Montgomery looks really good at RB. I personally didnt expect much from him, but he looks better than almost every back we've had in recent years. I didn't watch much of GB so I wasn't sure how he'd be between the tackles, but he's impressed me so far. Gase hasn't even gotten the chance to be creative with him and Bell out their either.

Montgomery isn't durable enough to be a full-time running back, and he didn't have good enough hands to be a full-time receiver.

But in a part-time role, his durability at RB doesn't matter as much, and at running back, his suspect hands don't matter as much because he won't be making too many contested catches. I like his game. I wouldn't like it if he were the full-time running back if Bell went down, but he and Powell or he and McGuire can share the load and do just fine.

Both of us left Tarell Basham off the list. Here's a Tarell Basham hype article from legendary former Jets DE Steve White.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him, but if if he is a good ST guy, and I can’t see him as a starter, which is why I left him off the list. But coaches described him as “an ascending player” which makes me think he’s got a shot at the roster for sure. But I also don’t know jack about McClellan, just that we signed him in the corresponding move for Williamson headed to IR
