Jason Myers was a shitty kicker for a couple years, who was cut by the Seahawks early in camp last year.

Overpaying for kickers is rarely a smart decision. No team has proven that more recently than the Jets, who picked up Nick Folk, Chandler Catanzaro and Myers off the scrap heap and got great years from all three. It might bite us this year, but I don't regret not paying Myers $5M or whatever he got.

We could have franchised the guy therefore limiting the term to a one year deal. If he regresses, we cut and move on. Only costs us some cap space in a year where we had a shitload of it.

Cap space can carry over. I dont think paying Myers like a top-5 kicker when the Jets had a proven track record of finding kickers off the scrap heap was prudent financially. He was starting to regress at the end of the year, too.

Not having Myers hasnt hurt us at all yet. Odds are we will likely upgrade from Bertolet.

I don't understand it.  I can't remember the last training camp when there wasn't at least a semblance of a kicking competition.  And we hand the job to a dude who doesn't want it and got fired mid-season last year. 

It seems to me that reliable placekicking has never been as valuable as it is in the 15-yard PAT era, but you wouldn't guess it by our moves this off-season.

Not sure how serious you are being, but I actually think we should go for 2 a lot. The expected points in an extra point and a 2-point conversion are about equal now after the XP was moved back. If we have a good offense and a. Ad kicker, we should go for 2 more.
