Thanks.
So it turns out, Italian Seafood was right an everyone can go freak themselves.

I agree that any penalty that is an automatic first down is totally ridiculous. There is no such penalty for the offense that results in an automatic fourth down.
Need a new one for a new board...

To be fair though it would encourage teams to commit penalties on defense in certain situations.

3rd and 22? Be extra freaking aggressive on opposing wide outs and hope you don't get called for holding. If you do, then NBD it's 3rd and 17,if you don't well then it's 4th down.

I'd rather see the league let DBs play defense rather than try to get rid of the automatic first down things.

If you jump offsides it's 3rd and 17. The rules make it hard enough for a DB now, so even a questionable call on 3rd and long extends a drive that has no business being extended.

Except offsides is pretty cut and dry. Holding/pi is extremely subjective

Welcome to your new NFL

https://mobile.twitter.com/SNFonNBC/status/1157099846505046016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1157099846505046016&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdailysnark.com%2Fhall-of-fame-game-features-first-challenge-of-pass-interference-penalty-in-nfl-history%2F

If that counts as PI on a ball overthrown by 7 yards, might as well not bother challenging if the defender did in fact touch the receiver. I wonder what the overturn percentage on that call will be this year? I’m guessing about 15%

What was the change to false start? I was watching a condensed game and they had called like 3 false starts on the QB  and said it was a rule change for this year, but it was a condensed game so they cut out the whole discussion about it

Apparently to better protect QB's the nfl has told officials to call less offensive holding penalties

Even thoguh there's basically offensive holding on every play, the NFL thinks it needs more

More actual holding, not penalties
