If we suck the rest of the year almost nobody would argue that Gase should get fired.

But if Gase can make Darnold look legit in at least the majority of the remaining games, I don't know how the freak you'd still want him gone.  The Pats could finish this season 16-0, yeah they raped us. But I don't give a freak about the Pats. This team is live or die by Sam. And if Gase can somehow facilitate Darnold looking like a top QB, you HAVE to keep him. If he can't then of course you dump him. But no matter what he has this season to try to prove himself, it would be freaking idiotic not to at least keep an open mind

Gase is here to develop Darnold. If we are satisfied where Darnold is at the end of the season, most likely, we should keep Gase unless he's a disaster in other areas.

If Darnold isn't where we want him to be, then firing him becomes a definite possibility.
