I wish we never let Ben Hartsock go. We've been badly missing a competent blocking tight end since he left.

Hartsock is such a good blocker, that despite not being targeted once this season, he's PFF's 4th overall rated tight end.

There was a surprisingly big dropoff between him and Mulligan.

Hartsock was a holding penalty waiting to happen on most runs with absolutely no hands so I really have no objection to him being on another team based on his play as a Jet. What the Jets need is a competant TE, not the freaking pass or block specialists they have been signing.

I do wish they held on to Joel Dreessen.

Why the asterisk next to Nick Novak?

Hartsock?  I don't remember that.  Are you sure you're not thinking of Mulligan?  Mulligan was a freaking penalty machine, but I thought Hartsock was OK.

I must be reading this wrong.

You are saying that you don't remember Hartsock, but thought he was OK?

The holding calls were the biggest argument against resigning him at the time. Somehow Mulligan found a way to be worse

In regard to penalties.

I checked it out on PFF.  Hartsock drew 4 flags in 2009, 2 in 2010 with us.  Not bad at all.

In comparison, Matt Mulligan drew 9 in 2011 when he took over Hartsock's job.  He was a freaking flag magnet.  I remember Shonn Greene had one long run the entire season, and it came back because of Mully.  Then somebody cursed him out on the sideline, and he went postal.

Never part of the regular season team. He was only brought in to compete with Folk during camp/preseason.

That's how I remember it. Hartsock wasn't perfect, but Mulligan was much worse.

I do wish they held on to Joel Dreessen.

Dreessen was so insignificant during his time here that it's hard to be sore about letting him go. Though one could be annoyed that he saw almost no playing time.

Maybe I just remember more penalties because the bitching was occurring on [old site].

I'll fully admit that the Dreessen comment is 100% hindsight based entirely off of hos production with other teams.

I also had no idea that Wisenhunt both played and coached for the Jets.

I found that out about Whiz when this exercise was done for the 2008 Super Bowl. Lots of ex-Jets in that one.
