I respect that he wants to win, and that he's loyal to his guys, but I would prefer an owner let the football people run the football ship. Crazy that an owner is also the GM.

Looking at this again, and this isn’t a relevant statement anytime recently. They would have taken Johnny Manziel over Zack Martin years before you made this post.

I echoed what you said for years, and then things changed. They’ve actually had an excellent front office over recent years, so either GM doesn’t matter or for the Cowboys it’s a figurehead position and they have real people calling the shots.

I think it’s the second one. Jerry wants the glory, but realizes he needs real people doing the gig, so he has the title but someone else is really handling the decision making, and jerry has the right to overrule but usually doesn’t

Jerry Jones was asked about DE Sam Williams having some off the field issues since being drafted by the Cowboys last year. Williams was involved in a car wreck last year where he was driving nearly 100 miles per hour. When that was mentioned to Jones:

“First of all, I’m seeing that he is, which is more often the case than not, this sounds a little hollow, but he is maturing. And he is. What was he going 66 miles per hour (when he was arrested this year)? So, he’s 34 miles an hour less this year. Ninety-eight to 66, that’s improvement. We’ll keep working. We’ll get it down.”
