If those numbers are true, he and Boras are idiots. Why would you not take a deal making $40M+ for just a few years, on a contending team, and have a shot at another massive payday while still in your prime?

Also, if true, that's going to hurt MLBPA's case when they argue that players are being stiffed. The deals Harper and Machado took are hefty enough, but those numbers are insane.

I've now had two people in the last week tell me how much they're looking forward to watching Vlad as a Blue Jay on opening day. When I told them why that wasn't going to happen, one told me I was wrong ("he's too good not to be in from the start, he should have been here last year") and the other told me it would be a huge mistake ("never mind contract stuff, the fans will riot if they don't bring him up").

I feel like this is going to be a long and painful season.

It’s a shitty system, but they should def keep him in the minors for 3 weeks. Makes way to much financial sense. If he’s not up after 3 weeks, then that might turn into a sideshow.

He has the potential to be a player that’s worth tuning in to watch every night, no matter how shitty the rest of the team is.

Depends whether they want to keep him down long enough to mitigate any risk of Super 2. I highly doubt that they will but it's a possibility, particularly if they still want to work with him a bit more on physique and fielding. If they do then he won't be up until the middle of summer.
