The reports of Bilal Powell's death are greatly exaggerated.

Placed on IR.

I have to think it's probably the end of his Jets career considering Crowell, McGuire and Cannon are all under contract and acquired by this regime. Unless McGuire shows nothing when he returns, I think he'd take Powell's role, and either Cannon or someone else can be the third back.

Crowell, McGuire and Cannon is a supremely unexciting corps. It was already a position of need but it just ramped up significantly.

If we don't resign him he is going to sign with the Pats and beat us until he is 40

Same, but the time has come to move on.

He's never been unproductive, they just never used him enough and now he's out for the year. If he comes back he'll probably still help.

He turns 30 on Monday. At best, he's out 8 weeks, which means he wouldn't return except for the last couple of games. He's a pending free agent. I love the guy, but it's time to move on.

Probably. My only point is he's been a good steady player for us while we always seemed to be looking for someone else.

He needs neck surgery that will end his season and possibly his career.

Man, that's a real shame. Spent his entire career with the Jets doing yeoman's work, and it all could have just ended on Sunday.

Sucks for Powell, he’s been one of the bright spots the past few years and shockingly one of Rex’s best picks. He was never a landmark player and got hurt too often but when he was on the field he was a strong asset and losing hims sets us back.

We needed to move on this year in an attempt to upgrade, but he’s been a great Jet and I hope his surgery goes well and he gets healthy soon
Need a new one for a new board...

Awful. I hate seeing anyone get hurt, but especially when it has the potential to end their career.

Apparently it was a misunderstanding and Powell is expected to be able to continue playing once he heals up after surgery. I know he'll be 30 in a few days but I still hope he's brought back on a team friendly deal.

I mean his last deal was 3 years 11 million at age 26.

At 30 coming off a neck injury//surgery, I think at best hes looking at 3 years 6 or 7 million with very little guaranteed.  And I think its fairly possible he could be looking at close to a 1 year vet minimum kind of deal

Too early to talk signing Powell to a lifetime extension?
