Makes no sense for the Jets unless we're giving them Trumaine Johnson

It makes no sense for us to acquire elite players?  Alright.

we should absolutely acquire elite players....but i don't think we're in any position to at this point in our rebuild. We already have no 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft.

Why is trading a pick for a player a problem if that player is better than anything we can reasonably hope to take with that pick in the first place? You're trading a degree of longevity for a guarantee of success.

Age and cap hit are factors.  Granted, we have a ton of cap space, so that doesn't apply to us in this instance.  But having said that, we've already invested a significant amount in the position already (Trumaine).

The draft capital is where my concern lies...every week we talk about the holes on our roster.  We can't fill them all in FA, we need draft picks.  If we were a contender, i would love to bring in Peterson.  But we're not, so it doesn't make sense for us right now.

I don't necessarily disagree on Peterson because of his age, but my point was that spending draft capital on a good player is fine in a rebuild IMO, because that's what you're supposed to do when you're rebuilding. I don't for example think that the Cooper trade was as terrible as many seem to, because he's young and has shown that he can do the job in the NFL. Are you going to get a better player with a mid first next year? Maybe, but it's far from a lock.

I'm with DCM on this.

I don't want to waste any draft capital on a player that isn't directly helping Sam Darnold.

I don't think there's anything wrong with kicking the tires and seeing what the Cards are looking for, but I agree with the sentiment of "let's not sacrifice draft capital if it's not going to help Sam Darnold win games."

I love defense. I have always stuck by the mantra that defenses win championships. But the Jets focus on defense to a fault for far too long. This team has a true franchise QB now. It's time to give him weapons to succeed.
Teams that draft well do so no matter where they pick. Teams that draft poorly do so no matter where they pick I want my team to win games and draft well
